Berdasarkan informasi sementara dari Badan Meteorologi, Klimatologi, dan Geofisika (BMKG), pusat gempa terletak pada koordinat 1,29 Lintang Utara dan 98,80 Bujur Timur, dengan kedalaman 60 kilometer di bawah permukaan laut.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Episentrum gempa berada di laut, sekitar 45 kilometer barat daya Tapanuli Tengah, 49 kilometer tenggara Sibolga, dan 53 kilometer barat daya Padangsidimpuan. Gempa ini juga berjarak sekitar 256 kilometer tenggara dari Kota Medan dan 1.217 kilometer barat laut dari Jakarta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">BMKG memastikan bahwa gempa tersebut tidak berpotensi menimbulkan tsunami. Hingga berita ini diturunkan, belum ada laporan kerusakan maupun korban jiwa akibat gempa tersebut. Masyarakat diimbau untuk tetap tenang dan mengikuti arahan dari pihak berwenang serta terus memantau informasi resmi dari BMKG.
